Mary's Quilt

mayo foundation house

I got a phone call a couple months ago from a friend of mine. We worked together at the Mayo Foundation House in Rochester,Mn.  I was surprised when she called me to do a quilt for her.

I took her quilt over to mom&dad's and laid it out on their basement floor. Mary said she used all scraps for this project that it took her 2 yrs to finish. Not because the pattern takes two years but more so she's a busy gal. She only could put bits&pieces of time into it. it's PERFECT. All the points are perfect.. She does such good work.

So, I placed her quilt on 'betty' and away we went. It took me a shorter amount of time to quilt it than I thought. And wonderfully, nothing happened with my machine.. it ran very smoothly.

When I quilted it I went around the middle squares, then around the 2nd block and then around the outer block. I think it turned out rather nicely. I didn't want to take away from her design.

Anyone seen my Groove?

Oh Groove where have you gone? I haven't seriously posted or sewed in 3 weeks perhaps its been more than a month. What's wrong with me?? Where has my groove gone?? Most days after I get home from work I end up taking a nap.. We've had such nice weather here lately- regardless of last nights tornado threat.. What's wrong with me?!?
Rosie after her much needed grooming

We got the puppies groomed a couple weeks ago.. I know your asking yourself 'What does this have to do with quilting' but I need to brag.. They look so much better..   I did start on my Art Teacher's (from HS some 11 yrs ago) Quilt..  Its a half a log cabin block. and they way she displayed them, they look like flying geese to me. And I LOVE  Flying Geese.

I think I'll have to make a quilt like this in the future.. I'm doing feathering in the the white parts and then reversed upside down in the blue parts.. I've always been my own worse critic. I want to impress Ms. F. You know??

I thought with the sewing machine light off you'd be able to see the quilting better.. :)  How does it look? but, I've always favored the back...

I love the back and it seems like my phone isn't doing the quilt justice.. I'm using variegated blues on the back and invisible on the front..  one side left and you know I'm finding that I make much better feathers when I work to the right than I do when I work to the left.. wonder why that is..

I'd gotten this print a little while ago and I need to live by it. Specially the second one 'Complain Less & Doubt Less'

I'm still going to do a give away of some of the fabrics from the Star Quilt I did at retreat.. So please please please give me your feed back.. I'll draw a name at random when I reach 15 followers..

Happy Sewing!

Quilt Retreat March 2012 Part1

So this year at retreat I didnt get as much done as I thought I would.. I remember in past years that I could stay up much later than I can now before my eyes would go double and heavy. I blame this on old age. I got to working on the "Simply Stars'' pattern.

I really thought at first glace that I would be harder than It acctually was.. Funny how you can be sew intimadated in something but really REALLY its so much easier than meets the eye.. Funny..
First, I started by sewing my strips.. The pattern had it greens, purples, red, darker red, blue and tan.. I sometimes *not all the time* will follow the pattern colors.. This isnt one of those times.. I chose pink, blue, green and purples. I love bright vibrant colors- jewel tones.  Then, I cut templates (you can find the template fabric at like Michaels or Hobby Lobby- I would guess that Joanns would have it as well)

I sewed 6 of each color only because I was switching it up and only doing 4 colors and black borders.

The blocks themselves are sewing Y seams.. Its really not as hard as you think and don't pych yourself you, IT WILL TURN OUT.. And if it doesn't pull Jack the Ripper out and Start over..
They reminds me of paper airplanes..

The quilt is sewn on point at a diagional.. I rarely if ever put things on Point.. I may love a quilt or pattern but won't make it if its on point. (I made this one to prove to myself that YES! I CAN make it!! Mostly because T wants it.. and I needed to KNOW I could!!  I didn't use the template for the borders- didnt think that far- but cut a 4'' strip of fabric and winged it like I always do...

Didn't win the lottery..

T and I have been playing the lottery.. 2 tickets every W & S.. In hopes of hitting the millions.. so we can quit our day job Working as a baker isn't bad by any means but, you can't choose those you work with like you can't choose your family. So, your kinda just stuck with them.. .. Oh well, less than 30 hrs till Monday.. AHHHH...

But, look what I made.. I saw the idea on Pinterest. a site I spend more time on than facebook or with my wonderful husband...  Betty, the babylock quilters dream machine, love this.. I know it will be a Big hit at the next quilt retreat.. The one I saw on Pinterest was elastic- in not wanting to go anywhere- I made my own straps and just tied it really tight in the back..  I'm sew excited to use it. :)

I started cutting out another quilt but I admit I'm in a rut. I don't really have anything pressing to make or finish. >.<  So.. now what?!?  I get the make a project for ME?! Um... Now what to make???

Help!!! I need ideas!!!
