Quilt Doodles BOM

Just click on the link above for Quilt Doodles BOM

I've always enjoyed sewing/quilting.. :)
& Quilt doodles is my first BOM I've ever done...

I chose the same dotty white as I used in the first block..
Looked through my batiks & these are the ones I choose..
I had just a little square of the red flower & a fat quarter of the green...
I cut everything out &
sewed my pinwheel parts...
...only to realize that my pinwheel is backwards..
>.< doh!
But.. I sewed everything together anyway...

funny thing about being Quilt Doodles Sister
is when I screw up and miss read her directions..
she's right on speed dial...
She told me.. '..Pinwheels do spin in different directions..'

I also opted out of doing the applique flower and yo-yo..
That's just me tho..

Also.. on another not.. Our mother has been doing
Quilt Doodles BOM too..
Mom's Jan BOM

Mom's Feb BOM
She's going to do the flower and the yo-yo..

Happy Sewing~

I sew.. therefore I am

I decided a little while ago to make a knitting needle holder for my mother-in-law, Kathy.

I got this book from Sister C a while ago. I've had it for ages. Let me just say I rarely knit. And if I do its normally just a scarf here or a sugar&cream towel there. I'm not a huge knitter.. but Debbie Stoller wrote a very nice book. On page 284 (I think) there is a sewing pattern for a knitting needle holder. I myself, made one for me, for those knitting needles I hardly ever use anymore..

My In-Laws are in the process of downsizing.. so I'm sure her knitting needles are packed away but, I've seen a few hanging out in a Partylite Hurricane she got from me from when I used to sell Partylite..

I started by choosing the colors.. I called up Kathy last week and asked her what her favorite color was. She very much surprised her son who thought her fave would be pink or purple..
Sew, I'm going to use the black flower print as the outside, the light swirly flowery print as the inside, the turquoise flower print as the flap and then the green plaid as the needle pocket.. I may end up switching it up before I start cutting. Plus, I need to go get black or blue ribbon for it too.. :)

For that part of my sewing room isn't quite the way I want it. I have 3 HUGE boxes of empty partylite boxes. I need the hubs to help me move them out & bring in our old dinning room table.

I was going to start cutting and sewing tonight but I realized that
I FORGOT my pressure foot for Betty at mom&dads
Oops..

Sew.. until next time..

Happy Sewing~

My hardest project

Good Morning Ladies~

I was reflecting recently about the hardest project. We all have one. Mine so far was applique by Tony Whitney. And if asked nicely if  I would ever make another one again.. The answer would be no, unless I was paid ALOT...

Toni Whitney version- earth, wind & fire

I can across this pattern in 2009 when on a Minneapolis shop hop with my mom & sister C. The kit was much more but I love batiks & my stash was a plenty.. So after the wedding or was it before.. I think it was after I was hitched.. Hubby and I started our adventure.. He helps me so much when it comes to my quilting addiction. :) He helped trace all the little pieces onto heat&bond, helped me cut them all out & kept them organized. Then after I'd ironed them one to my fabric choices. He cut them ALL out and labeled them into plastic baggies.. When tackling a project like this, its the ONLY way to go...

my try at Earth,Wind & Fire
I know the orange horses ear is off.. been meaning to fix that.. :) I like the vibrant colors. Some day I'll quilt it.. but for now its hanging over my ironing board in my sewing room.. Along with all the other quilt blocks I have that inspire me.

front row: Daddy, Sister Gena, Me & Mommy

I'm blessed. I have such a good family & my husband's family isn't SO bad either. So on the eve before this Mother's Day. I want to share a very simple recipe for a pie my husband loves~

 Pudding Pie

1~ 8" graham cracker crust or short bread crust
2~ pkgs of whatever kind of instant jell-o pudding you like (I've used double chocolate & french vanilla)

make the 2 pkgs of jell-o pudding as to directions on the box and pour it into the cracker crust and refrigerate.  When set top with cool whip.. serve :)

I've learned to kiss (keep it simple silly)

Happy Mother's day to those Moms out there in Blog land.. :)

Happy Stitches~

FNSI

Finally, It's FRIDAY!!! Oh, how I've been waiting for you..  and It's my first FNSI.. My sister C has been doing them for months..SEW, I have the weekend off *happy dance* Very excited about the weekend.. maybe its because the weather has been so nice here. Around 75* today and it looks like its going to stay for awhile.  Tomorrow is the Weis/Zappa St. Joesph's Day Celebration. I'd never heard of St. Joesph's Day until I met my husband. more explanation on St. Joesph's Day Hubby's mom Kathy asked me to make aprons for those who make the rice fritters and soup. I was on retreat last weekend with mom, sister C and Kim and well didn't get to Everything I wanted. Such is life, Right? So, tonight was for me to quickly work on the aprons. .I was going to make them mind you using tea towels in the appropriate colors (red, white and green) but, lost misplaced the pattern...

I bought prem-ade aprons in red & green.. some ric rac and puff paint... Here's what I did..

For Auntie Barb
the one for me..
the one for Beth
the one for my mother in law- I think its my favorite..

And remember I'll be giving away some fabric that I used in the Star Quilt I did at retreat.. All you have to do is follow me and let me know what I can do change/better.. :) I want your opinion!!!

Don't eat the Cheese...

Sew.. Yesterday I had the WHOLE DAY to sew.. Brian went to help his parents..  So, it was just the pups and I.. :) I did sew but that was after.. I scooted around pinterest for awhile and got so totally inspired to make great things..   I wish I would have stopped and took pictures and I will go back to take pictures.. I WILL!   I started by cutting the fabrics I had gotten for the Simply Triangles quilt I'm going to attempt to do cause T wants one in purples for her daughter.. :) I CAN do it!!
I love the fabrics I got for this project.. expecially the pinks. But, I've always been a color kinda girl..    Sew, after a lunch of pasta (love my carbs), alfradio sauce (husbands dislikes) and parmasan cheese (something I should have checked the date on before eating) I went back down to start cutting and sew....

I got through cutting my 1 1/2'' strips of the pink, blue and part of the green to realise that the 2 greens between the light and dark are the same shade.. I need to fix that, ugh! so.. Not that I dont want to go back to the fabric store which I'm indifferent about I texted my sister C asking her if she had a mid-light green color.. next I'll ask mom.. Then, I'll revisit the fabric store..  After cutting and breaking up a few dog fights (they are puppies and they will play) I started working on the flying geese for Jazz's Project.. The book I'm working out of has a away of making thses flying geese like I've not done before.. Its really slick..

Sew.. after getting very close to being done with the slick flying geese I felt super sick.. I'm not going to go into much detail about this but to say.. Don't eat the cheese.. I should have checked the date on the cheese (which hubby did when he got home last night.. April 2011 was the date on the cheese) Bad, I know..
Sew, I didn't get as much done as I would have liked BUT, next weekend is retreat.. Can't wait and I have sew much to do. :)

Happy Sewing to you..

I should be a super hero...

If I was a super hero.. I'd be called the Quick Quilter.. I'd save those Quilters from the Blahs.. They'd be inspired by my ablitlity to finish quilt tops in a single afternoon.. I'd protect them from Jack the Ripper...

I finished the 'Urban Cabin' Quilt top today.. I have Thursdays off most weeks from the Bakery. Thats right?!?  I'm a baker.. :)  I love having Thursdays off, its a nice break.. So, on this Cold  day  (Oh how I love the cold...) I spent it with the pups in my sewing room.. Fuzzy hat on, slippers and a blanket over my lap..  But, look what I got done...
ITs so PRETTY.. I'm SO happy with it.. I think I'm going to go with black backing.. I will be cursing it later.. when I'm trying to bind it.. How to quilt it.. there are so many different options.. I should ask my sister C.. She'll know.. :)  OH C...  So, what to work on now?

Happy Quilting to all.. and to all a good Evening.. I work the next couple of days at the Bakery and probally won't get down into the sewing room..  We are under a Winter Advisory for tomorrow into tomorrow night.. oh  how I just LOVE the snow...   But, perhaps we'll get snowed in.. :) Here's to hoping right??? ?
